1. Don’t play too many hands! This is the number one beginners-mistake. Go to a beginners pokerroom and look at the pokerhands of the newbs. What you will see is amazing. In general the beginners don’t want to wait for good cards. Most of the beginners play hands which they usually have to fold. You won’t win a lot of money on long terms. Remember discipline is very important when you play poker.

2. Don’t play with too much money! Play with an amount of money that feels save and good for you. If you can’t eat and can’t pay the rent anymore… You’re playing for too much money. You will make more faults when you’re playing for too much money. When your bankroll grews, play for higher stakes but practice on low-stake tables!

3. Take a break when you are going mad! When you are playing against a weak opponent or a gambler, the change on bad beats is higher. This is part of the game. But when you will play longer against this newbie opponents you’ll see you start to win. When you’re going crazy because of the bad beats… Just stop. You won’t be the first player who will lose all his money because of the bad beats.

4. Compare! It’s very important to look at your winning oppurtunities. Look at the amount of money you have to call and the amount of money that’s in the pot. Compare these two things and look if the call may be too risky. Google Pot odds if you want to know more about this.

5. Understand how you play! It’s very important to know why and when you play a hand in a specific situation. Think about the hands that you’ll play in different situations. You have to explain yourself and others why you act like you do. Why did you raise this time, why did you fold these cards? You’ll become a much better player when you can explain yourself why you took an action. Talk about poker with friends, visit forums, buy books, watch video’s. Do everything to become a good poker player. You can earn a lot of money.
